Frequently asked questions

Questions trades owners ask before hiring us

The questions we hear most from plumbers, electricians, roofers, painters, landscapers and other trades owners, answered directly. If yours isn't here, call, text or email.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

These are the questions trades owners ask us most often, answered as directly as we can. They cover price, contracts, timelines, ownership, reporting and what to expect if you've been let down by an agency before. The short version: prices are published, there's no long-term contract, you own what we build, and we report on booked jobs rather than vanity numbers.

Frequently asked questions

How much does trades marketing cost with you?

Plans start at $1,999 per month, or $1,499 per month on annual billing, with Elite at $3,999 ($2,999 annual) and Enterprise at $7,999 ($5,999 annual). Prices are in Canadian dollars. GST/HST is added by province (GST and QST in Quebec).

Am I locked into a contract?

No. Plans are month-to-month with no long-term contract. You can cancel with 30 days' notice. Annual billing is available at a lower monthly price if you want it.

How long before I see results?

Paid search can produce calls within days. Google Business Profile fixes often change what customers see within weeks. Local SEO usually needs three to six months in a competitive market, sometimes less in smaller towns.

We tried an agency before and it didn't work. Why would this be different?

We can't promise it will be, but we can show you how we work before you pay anything. We start from your job values and close rate, report on booked jobs rather than clicks, keep every account in your name, and you can leave on 30 days' notice.

Who owns the website, Google profile and ad accounts?

You do. They are set up in your business's name, so if you ever leave, they stay with you. If a past agency holds your accounts, we can help you request them back.

What do your monthly reports show?

Calls, texts and quote requests by source, booked jobs where your records allow, cost per enquiry and per booked job, visibility for your main services in each area, new reviews, and what we plan to change next month.

Can you promise a number of leads or a first-page ranking?

No. Nobody can honestly promise rankings or lead counts, because Google and your competitors control part of the outcome. We'll explain what we expect and why, and measure it every month.

Do you work with my trade?

We work with 18 trades, from plumbing, electrical, HVAC and roofing to painting, landscaping, flooring, fencing, concrete and locksmiths. Our trade-by-trade playbook explains how marketing differs for each.

Do you do the trade work too?

No. We plan and run marketing and advise owners; the installing, repairing and servicing is always done by you and your crew, never by us.

Do you sell leads to several contractors at once?

No. We build marketing for your business: your website, your profile, your ads. The enquiries come to you, not to a shared pool.

Do you work outside British Columbia?

Yes. We are headquartered in Vancouver and work with trades in all 10 provinces and 3 territories. Meetings happen by video call or in person. Phone, text and email work as well.

Is the first consultation free?

Yes. The initial 30-minute consultation is free for eligible trades businesses and is separate from the paid plans.

How do I get started?

Call or text (604) 632-4959, or email Ali@Sedighi.ca, with your trade, service area and what you want more of. We usually reply within one business day.

Price and contracts

Our plans are on the pricing page: Growth at $1,999 per month, Elite at $3,999 and Enterprise at $7,999, with lower monthly prices on annual billing. Canadian clients add GST or HST for their province.

The point owners ask about most is lock-in. There isn't any. Plans are month-to-month, and you can cancel with 30 days' notice. We'd rather earn the next month than trap you into it.

If an agency let you down before

It's a story many trades owners tell. An owner paid for a year, received monthly reports full of impressions and traffic charts, and couldn't tell whether a single job came from it. Sometimes the agency owned the website, or the Google Ads account, and the owner lost both when they left.

The way to avoid repeating that:

  1. Ask who will own the accounts, in writing, before you sign.
  2. Ask what the report will measure. If it doesn't include calls, booked jobs and cost per job, it isn't measuring the business.
  3. Ask how you leave. Notice periods, handover of accounts, and what happens to the website.
  4. Ask for the maths. Any plan should start from your job values and close rate. Our budget guide shows how.

Those questions apply to us as much as anyone else.

Timelines and expectations

Different services move at different speeds:

  • Paid search: calls can start within days; reliable cost-per-job numbers take six to eight weeks.
  • Google Business Profile: visible improvements within weeks.
  • Local SEO and content: three to six months in a competitive market.
  • Reviews: new reviews from the first month, if requests go out after every job.
  • Video: familiarity builds over months, not weeks.

The services overview explains which to start with for your trade.

Ownership, reporting and how we work

You own your website, domain, Google Business Profile, ad accounts and analytics. They are set up in your business's name. Reports are monthly, in plain language, and centred on the numbers that matter to a trades business: calls, texts, quote requests, booked jobs and cost per job.

You'll talk to a senior strategist, not a call centre. Trades.Marketing is part of the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group, headquartered in Vancouver, BC, and led by Ali Sedighi, MBA. See about us and the results from our HVAC work.

What we'll need from you

Good marketing for a trades business needs a little of the owner's time, especially at the start. Plan for:

  • One to two hours in the first week to go through your job types, prices, service area and what has and hasn't worked before.
  • Photos from real jobs. Your crew's phones are the most useful source. We'll show them what to capture.
  • Quick approvals. Pages and ads that wait three weeks for sign-off lose a season. A short weekly check-in usually solves this.
  • Access to your records, such as job values and booked work, so we can report cost per job rather than guessing.
  • A monthly call of about 30 minutes to review results and agree what changes next.

After the first month, most owners spend less than an hour a week on it. If that sounds like more time than you have, say so on the first call and we'll plan around it.
